Robin is a songwriter, composer and classically trained pianist, with music studies spanning 20 years. A student of the Wausau Conservatory of Music in her youth, she trained as a concert pianist, with additional education in flute and vocal performance. Expanding her musical scope beyond classical training, she furthered her studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Music with creative focus in piano and voice. While in school, her musical inclinations toward composing and film scores led her to direct her attention to film studies, in which she earned her degree, while continuing her musical training. In the years following, Robin embarked on a multitude of wide-ranging musical collaborations and composition projects.
Of note in recent years is her work in performance and songwriting collaboration with Built to Spill’s Doug Martsch, pianist and music coach for select Opera Idaho artists, composer for Devon Reed’s independent feature The Bigtop, and composer for First Circle, Heather Rae’s feature documentary exploring America’s foster care system and the family unit, premiering at the 2010 Woodstock Film Festival. She has also recently been commissioned by The Cabin, Idaho’s literary anchor, to compose original music for the upcoming “Cabin Conversations” international author series premiering November 2010 with T.C. Boyle. This past July, Robin was greatly honored by the Sundance Institute as one of four internationally selected composer fellows for the 2010 Sundance Film Composer and Documentary Lab.
Robin currently resides in Boise, Idaho, but frequently travels to her childhood home in rural Wisconsin. Her musical influences include Nino Rota, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Olivier Messiaen, and the natural beauty of the two places she calls home.
